Project Description
COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
Carlos Sanchez Elementary
Carlos Sánchez Elementary is a public school located in La Merced Sur in the city of La Paz, department of La Paz. It was founded on June of 2000 by a citizen group and city officials. It started with 21 students and currently serves about 400 students. This school is also helping kids from other neighborhoods. The school has only 9 classrooms to serve this student population; 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades attend the morning class schedule while 4th, 5th, and 6th grades attend classes in the afternoon.
The new Honduran Education Law is proposing the conversion of all public schools to Basic Education Centers. The aim is reducing the gap in school attendance for young people from 12 to 14 years old. What was not taken into consideration was the need of proper school infrastructure to accommodate this new group of students. Therefore, Connected to Serve is joining forces with Carlos Sanchez Elementary to build three new classrooms to serve middle school students by February 2019.
